Creative Writing Senior Showcase rescheduled for midweek FOCUS performance

Rescheduled from Jan. 12 after an inclement weather cancellation, the Creative Writing department will present its Senior Showcase during a FOCUS schedule on Wednesday Jan. 24.

What can we expect? This class of Creative Writing seniors has been preparing the details and what it's going to look like since the start of the school year in August and have been doing run-through rehearsals since getting back from the winter break.

While the weather delay could have dimmed down their spirits, Creative Writing seniors said they were actually happy about the delay. Though they were ready and fully prepared, they say the delay gave them more time to brush up and tweak any final details.

“[It may be] a fairly unfocused FOCUS day, but it came together," said CW senior Madison Hoar.

The showcase is called "What Keeps Me Up at Night." The Creative Writing seniors have planned a showcase full of surprises. They say they wanted to design a showcase like never before and fresh for our waiting eyes, using the talents of students from other specialty departments to accompany the work they have chosen to read on the Dorothy Jemison Day Theatre stage.

“Everyone involved has put in a lot of work and I am excited to see our show not only as creative writers, but in collaboration with every department,” said CW senior Lauren Underberg.

We can expect a lot of emotion, greatness, and hardworking effort from this group of seniors.

“This is the culmination of everything that I have learned in my five years as ASFA, and it is the only moment you are required to listen," said Kyra Richardson. "I hope that you give us your undivided attention.”

Creative Writing senior Melany Morgan was more blunt: “Like it, or else, please.”

After the showcase performance, the Creative Writing, Dance and Math/Science departments will dismiss for the day at 3 p.m. Theatre Arts students will be dismissed at 4:40 p.m. Visual Arts 7th and 8th graders will be dismissed at 3 p.m., while 9th-12th graders will be dismissed at 4:40 p.m. Finally, Music students involved with Thursday's Chamber Music recital will dismiss at 4:40 p.m.; all other Music students are dismissed at 3 p.m. Please check with department chairs for more details.
