FASHIONS OF THE WEEK | Sept. 27, 2023

NAME: Kyra Richardson GRADE: 12th Grade DEPARTMENT: Creative Writing

Comfort vs style? What do you value more?

Definitely style. Beauty is pain, get into it. People are allowed to look good and comfortable at the same time, but if I choose one, I’m going to look good.

Do you prefer formal or casual events? Or both?

I prefer formal events because I like to feel special, I like to feel hot, I like to feel important. Casual is cool too, but I associate it to school and Walmart.

How do you describe your style?

I think my style is very eclectic. I would also say it’s very academic. Very feminine, sometimes there’s some streetwear elements, stuff like that. I don’t shop retail; all my pieces are thrifted and gifted. So, I try to help the environment the best way that I can.

What inspired your style?

Really just me. I used to go to a school that had uniforms and then I got here and then I was like, ‘wow I have no idea how to dress myself’. It started out with wanting to look presentable, and then I would go online, especially because of the pandemic. I saw a lot of online fashion and I was like; I could do that in my sleep, so I did.

What is your signature hairstyle?

My signature hairstyle is an afro with a bandana on it. Sometimes there is no bandana, but it’s always going to be an afro.

What do you wear during the fall?

I normally pull out my turtleneck, my high heel boots, because I don’t wear regular boots. I pull out all the warm colors, because my closet’s color-coded. I like sweaters; I get into the academia of it. I like to feel like a fall movie, so it gets really aesthetic.
